movies/tv

I've lovingly dedicated a page to my all time favorite films, and unlike some things, I actualy have good taste in movies. I like to go to the movies a lot, and I seek others who share my interest in films. It's not like they've changed my life, but you can't commit crimes while watching a film. I'd recommend the following.

Hairspray

After spending a fucking age to do my film assingment on it, it's kinda lost it a bit for me, nevertheless, it's still totally watchable in my books. It's funny, it's weird, it's camp.. it has Riki Lake when she was a chunky teenager in it. This is the movie Dirty Dancing could have been.

TheThe Opposite of Sex

I'm not sure if this movie would be quite as good on the small screen, but when I saw it a couple of years ago I couldn't stop laughing. Christina Ricci is totally unabashed and perfect for her role in it.

Happiness

This is the movie American Beauty could have been, not that American Beauty wasn't good, Happiness is just beyond compare in this category. There's nothing that sucks about this movie, it has it all, and is a crackup

American Gothic

This is a horror movie, and is actually good at the same time - a rare combination. There's something sinister about Grownups acting like children, and the scene where they play the gheto blaster is just the funniest of the funny!

FightClub

There's no question about it, FightClub is an uncompromising American Classic with a much deserving cult following. It was so much better than I'd expected, and I love that in a film, it's got it all, looks, good story and a better twist than The Sixth Sense. Brad Pitt is a FOX and I must have sex with him immediatly.

2001: A Space Odyssey

This may be a bit dated, but some of the ideas are interesting. It's a well made film and is asthetically stunning at the very least.

Groundhog Day

Everytime I hear "I got you babe" it reminds me of the alarmclock in this film. It's such a novel idea, the possiblities are endless. Wouldn't it be cool if we had a Groundhog Day? Then we could go round ramming other cars and pushing motorbikes off cliffs etc etc

Aliens

This is like.. the only sci-fi film I really like, it is the quintessential Sigourney Weaver film, and I didn't find the plot hard to follow at all !

The Princess Bride

The romance.. it takes the prize for best fantasy love story, even the cheese can be overlooked, and the music is so beautiful..

Waynes World

(and Wayne's World 2) Were the funniest things when they first came out and even my Mum can recite most of the quotes from them on demand, thanks to my sister's persistance of watching them over and over.

Austin Powers (and Austin Powers 2)

I'll admit they're cheesy, but I hardly think premium film making was the producers intentions for these films. They're damn funny, and that's what counts.

Ferris Beuler's Day Off

I first saw this film when I was 11, and thought it was just soooooo funny and soooo cool, it possesses all the qualities of a good, clean 80's comedy and is charming in an innocent sort of way.

Blue Velvet

It's a strange world.. this movie is weird, so if you don't like weird, don't see it. Aside from that, it has it's own kind of humor and some memorable quotes. It's not exactly Twin Peaks, but anything by David Lynch Is worth a watch in my humble opinion.

The Graduate

I hadn't seen this movie till recently, and now I know why the Civic decided to replay it, it's very symbolic and very well made, who would have thought Dustin Hoffman could ever have been hunky?? And Simon and Garfunkle could ever have been tolerable?

The Breakfast Club

It's just so cute and funky! and it has the best quotes to boot.

A Clockwork Orange

I like the idea of violence as a form of expression, and it's damn entertaining too. It's sick, it's amusing and there's never a moment when you're completely sure of what's happening. Visually stunning, I'd say this movie is best viewed on the big screen.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Ok.. this movies wasn't thaaaaat good, but for some reason I was hooked on it when it first came out, and still like it now, maybe it's the nostalgic sound of Bryan Adams..

FaceOff

I loved that scene where the Air Hostess is thrown out of the plane and her body is thrown around on the runway.. it was so graphic and real. Not to say the concept of two people changing faces is realistic, but it's still a good watch.

Swingers

This movie has the coolest lines, the acting is good and is generally a good watch.

Go

I thought this movie was so funny when I first saw it, of course, this was when Katie Holmes didn't fuck me off, but yes.. I never liked Scott Wolf before this, I have a lot of respect for straight guys who are willing to act gay.

Bad Boy Bubby

Sick and twisted.. and just... sick, but amusing still. I heard Channel 3 played it last year, which puzzles me, they must have edited it to shit. Another movie with excellent quotes.

Twin Peaks

This has been my all time favorite since I was 10. Everything about it is good.. the casting, the acting, the story, the fact that it could sustain season after season without getting boring. I've seen the whole series about 3 times, and I'd watch it again and again..

Scream

This movie marked the comeback of horror in the nineties and is funny, hip and scary. It's kinda lost it a bit these days, but back in 1996 I was hooked.

Strangers with Candy

This is like.. the funniest thing on tv.. ever. It's sick and weird, but it has the coolest concept, and a crass old woman. I'm sure this is going to click on and have a cult following.

The Simpsons

Do I really need to back this up?

Vertigo

My favorite Alfred Hitchcock film, it's just so outrageously dramatic and intense.

The Labrynth

You have thirteen hours in which to solve the Labrynth before your baby brother.. becomes one of us.. forever.. You can't go past this movie for quotes, I can watch it over and over again and it never loses it. It reminds me of my childhood.. ahh.. *sigh*

The Twilight Zone

Ok, some of the stories suck in this, like the stupid one that Steven Speilberg made about the old people becoming young again, but the majority of Rod Sterling's stories are fucking good.
